The Complexity of Modern Airborne Power Bus Tolerances
Standard commercial off-the-shelf power converters fail in aerospace environments primarily because atmospheric pressure drops drastically with altitude, compromising dielectric air insulation (Paschen's Law) and ruining convective thermal dissipation paths. An airborne Aerospace Power Converter must maintain pinpoint output voltage regulation despite wide-range DC input swings (18VDC to 32VDC on 28V buses, or 180VDC to 330VDC on 270V high-voltage buses) and severe AC phase imbalances across 400Hz or variable frequency (360Hz–800Hz) generator systems.
At AJ's Power Source Inc. (AJPS), established in 1987 as a Veteran Owned Small Business (CAGE code 0P327) in Land O' Lakes, Florida, our engineering leadership brings over 100 combined years of specialized power electronics expertise. We design and manufacture ruggedized COTS, modified MOTS, and fully custom Aerospace Power Converters that withstand severe thermal shock, lightning transients (DO-160G Section 22), high altitude unpressurized operation (up to 70,000 feet), and structural vibration profiles mandated by MIL-STD-810H.
